Long Term Scout Ideas
In Troop 109 and 007, we want scouts to have a wonderful experience and have come up with a way to add to their scouting career, a Long Term Planning Committee. In this committee, we will be coming up with ideas for further out experiences. Below you will find more information on these activities.
Weekend Trips
Green Bank Observatory
This would be a weekend trip to West Virginia to experience this major site for deep space radio astronomy and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). They have multiple impossibly large radio telescopes including one 17 Mlb one that can hold a football stadium. One of the telescopes they maintain on site is for scouts to use for on-site astronomy merit badge weekends. You have to book as soon as they become available - 2026 is already booked.
Pisga Area Research Institue
Study astronomy and space much closer to home. This location offers amazing programs like Astrobiology, aerospace engineering, rocket launching, and Lunar and Martian geography. They even offer evening telescope viewing.
Winterplace Skiing
Scouts receive a discount for a day of skiing at Winterplace. Great opportunity to get some snow fun in and learn.

Florida - Southern Tip
Enjoy high adventure activities off the southern tip of Florida. Some adventures are sailing, ocean exploration, Coral Reef exploration, scuba diving, and more! Adventures are for ages 13+.

2026 Scout Jamboree
At Summit Bechtel Reserve
The BSA National Jamboree is a gathering, or jamboree, of thousands of members of the Boy Scouts of America, usually held every four years and organized by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. It’s not camp. National Jamboree is 360-degrees of fun, friends and fellowship with hands-on adventure that takes you places you never thought you’d go and challenge you to try things you never thought you could.
26th World Scouting Jamboree
Poland
2027 will hold the 26th World Jamboree in Poland. This will allow scouts to meet others from around the world with similar interests. Amazing opportunity for leaders and scouts alike.
2026 Winterfest
We will miss the 2025 Winterfest but 2026 will be coming quick!!
Winterfest is an exciting, fun-filled, and competitive event for Explorers, Venturers, Sea Scouts & older youth registered in Scouts BSA troops. Winterfest is an action-packed 2-day event filled with competitions, aquatic and STEM events, shooting sports, climbing, sports tournaments and more! Many events are related to various career fields such as Fire Service, Law Enforcement, and EMS.
